Md Ruhul Amin Fakir, the father of Mohammed Shariful Islam, the man who has been accused of attacking Bollywood actor Saif Ali Khan, has come out in defence of his son and claimed that he has been ‘framed’.
Fakir, in an interview with IANS, called out the discrepancies, particularly the CCTV footage showing the alleged suspect. “From what is shown in the CCTV… my son never keeps his hair long. I believe my son is being framed,” he said and denied any resemblance between his son and the individual seen in the footage.
Shariful, originally from Bangladesh, relocated to India to escape political turmoil in his home country. Describing his son as a hardworking individual who moved to the city for better opportunities, he explained, “He was working where he received a salary, and his employer even rewarded him…”Fakir also stated that his son decided to work in Mumbai as there was better pay in the city’s hospitality industry. “The salary in Mumbai’s hotels is higher than in West Bengal. The hotels there are larger, and the pay is better,” he was quoted saying.
Despite the serious allegations against his son, Fakir revealed that he has not been contacted by Indian police. “No, nothing like that has happened. No one has come from anywhere. We don’t know anyone in India. We have no support in India,” he said.
Recalling his last conversation with Shariful, Fakir told IANS that he would call him after he received his salary on the 10th of every month.
Meanwhile, the Mumbai Police have recorded the statement of actor Saif Ali Khan in connection with the stabbing incident at his Bandra residence. Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Satyanarayan Choudhary confirmed that the actor’s statement was taken at his home, ‘Satguru Sharan,’ on Thursday.
“Earlier, Kareena Kapoor‘s statement was also recorded by Bandra Police,” Choudhary added.
During the investigation, police discovered multiple fingerprints of the accused at the crime scene. These were found on the building’s staircase, the toilet door, and the handle of the door to Saif and Kareena’s son Jeh’s room.
Preliminary findings suggest that the accused attempted to break into three other houses before reaching Saif Ali Khan’s residence, allegedly with the intent to commit theft.
Mumbai Police believe the collected fingerprints will play a crucial role in solving the case. A senior official stated that the evidence provides a clear trail linking the accused to the crime.
A case has been registered under sections 311, 312, 331(4), 331(6), and 331(7) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), with further investigations underway.
