Directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur, ‘Sky Force’ is a gripping war drama inspired by the real-life events of the 1965 Indo-Pak War. Headlined by Akshay Kumar and Veer Pahariya, The film chronicles the Indian Air Force’s audacious airstrike on Pakistan’s heavily fortified Sargodha airbase, a mission that showcases unparalleled bravery and strategic brilliance. At its core, the story revolves around a maverick pilot, his mysterious disappearance, and his Wing Commander’s relentless quest for truth, which spans nearly two decades.

The cast that has brought the tale of valour to life

The film boasts a star-studded ensemble. Akshay Kumar plays Wing Commander Kumar Om Ahuja, a character inspired by the decorated war hero O.P. Taneja. Veer Pahariya, making his debut, plays Squadron Leader T. Krishna Vijaya, a fictionalized version of Ajjamada B. Devaiah. Maahir Raghuvanshi steps in as Vijaya’s younger version. Sara Ali Khan plays Geeta Vijaya, Krishna’s wife, and Nimrat Kaur plays Preeti Ahuja, Kumar’s wife.

Sharad Kelkar, Manish Choudhary, and Mohit Chauhan deliver powerful performances as Ahmed Hussain, Group Captain David Lawrence, and Air Chief Marshal Arjun Sinha, respectively. Varun Badola shines as Air Vice-Marshal Amit Narang, and an array of talented actors such as Soham Majmudar, Ritik Ghanshani, and Bryan Lawrence round out the cast. Historical figures like President Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan and Defence Minister Yashwantrao Chavan are also depicted, adding authenticity to the narrative.

Numbers from the advance booking

As ‘Sky Force’ gears up for release during the long Republic Day weekend, the buzz around the film is palpable. Advance ticket sales reflect the strong anticipation, with Scanilk reporting over Rs 2 crore in pre-bookings for the opening day alone. A total of 84,146 tickets have been sold across 11,041 shows, generating Rs 2.03 crore in revenue.

The Hindi 2D format dominates these figures, contributing Rs 1.95 crore from 82,110 tickets sold. With an average ticket price of Rs 223, this format clearly resonates with audiences. The Hindi IMAX 2D version also shows promising numbers, earning Rs 7.44 lakh from 2,036 tickets at an average price of Rs 416 across 173 shows.

With its gripping storyline, stellar performances, and patriotic fervour, ‘Sky Force’ is set to make waves at the box office. As it releases this Republic Day weekend, all eyes are on this cinematic tribute to the valour of the Indian Air Force.
