The upcoming historical epic ‘Kesari Veer: Legends of Somnath‘ is based on the 14th-century defense of the sacred Somnath Temple in Gujarat. The film is directed by Prince Dhiman and produced by Kanu Chauhan. The Somnath temple has been looted and plundered around 17 times. All the actors would be seen in a never-before-seen avatar, keeping with the times and the characters they are portraying.
The filmmakers have gone to extraordinary lengths to ensure authenticity. Eight colossal cannons, each weighing 250 kilograms, were specially crafted for the film, posing significant logistical challenges during shooting in rugged mountainous terrains. A team of 20-25 people, along with cranes, was required to position the canons for every shot. Additional props, including a 15-kilogram trishul, an 18-kilogram hammer, and 35-kilogram armor for lead actors, were designed to reflect the grandeur of the era and emphasize the film’s commitment to historical accuracy.
The stellar cast, featuring Suniel Shetty, Sooraj Pancholi, Vivek Oberoi, and Akanksha Sharma, underwent rigorous physical preparation to embody their demanding roles. Vivek plays the negative lead in the film; he plays the head soldier of the Tughlaq dynasty, who comes to Gujarat to loot the Somnath Temple, destroy the temples, and convert Hindus into Muslims. The film has been shot over 120 days and is currently in the post-production stage.
The official poster of Kesari Veer: Legends of Somnath will be unveiled soon.
