Raveena Tandon’s daughter Rasha Thadani and Ajay Devgn’s nephew Aaman Devgn made their debuts with ‘Azaad’ directed by Abhishek Kapoor. While Rasha had become quite popular even before the release of her first film and the song ‘Uyi Amma’ had become a rage, that has not reflected in the film’s box office collection.
‘Azaad’ only minted Rs 1.5 crore at the box office on Friday. There was not much improvement in the Saturday and Sunday numbers as well. Over it’s first weekend, the movie made Rs 4.65 crore in the span of three days which is a very low number. On its first Monday, the movie collected Rs 53 lakhs according to Sanilk. The total collection of the film so far in four days, is Rs 5.08 crore.
There’s also not been enough word of mouth which further gives a push to its numbers. ‘Azaad’ had released with Kangana Ranaut’s ‘Emergency’ on Friday. The latter has been doing much better but that number can also just be called below average. ‘Emergency’ made Rs 11.35 crore in the span of 4 days. Thus, it has been performing better than ‘Azaad’ despite the fact that the film was banned in Punjab and faced a lot of delay.
There is less scope now for ‘Azaad’ to remain stead over the next few days in its first week which was crucial for the movie. Meanwhile, ‘Pushpa 2’ which has been giving tough competition to all the movies since the last one and a half month has finally begun to calm down, thus giving more scope to the newer releases.
