Shakti Kapoor and Mithun Chakraborty, both alumni of FTII Pune, starred together in multiple films like Gunda and Kranti Kshetra. Although they are close friends today, Mithun, who was Shakti’s senior, once ragged him, leaving him in tears. Their bond grew over the years in the film industry.
When Shakti joined FTII, he formed a friendship with Ravi and Anil Varman, who introduced him to actors like Rakesh Roshan, Vinod Khanna, and music director Rajesh Roshan. These connections played a key role in shaping his career in the film industry.
In an interview with DD Urdu, Shakti shared an interesting memory from his time at FTII. He recalled arriving in Pune, feeling like a star with a beer in hand, and meeting Mithun Chakraborty, who was dressed in a dhoti. Mithun, after politely refusing the beer, later confronted Shakti for asking a senior in such a casual manner.
Shakti further shared a memory of his early days at FTII, where he was mocked by Mithun Chakraborty and his friends for his hair. Mithun’s group even made jokes about it and cut his hair with scissors. Shakti felt embarrassed and regretted his actions, realizing he had been wrong in the situation.
Kapoor recalled a tough moment at FTII when his seniors made him swim 40 laps in cold water as a punishment. Feeling regretful and embarrassed, he even begged them to let him return home to Delhi, crying and touching their feet. Eventually, they gave him a break.
Mithun Chakraborty eventually intervened and advised Shakti Kapoor to learn how to properly respect and behave with seniors.
