The US President-elect Donald J. Trump’s inauguration is adorned with jewels that will shine and perform at the ceremony, including Lee Greenwood, Christopher Macchio, and the lead of the event, Carrie Underwood. However, these celebrations extend far beyond the one-day event. During the weekend, Billy Ray Cyrus, Kid Wood, The Village People, and many others will perform in a campaign-style rally.
According to the Seattle Times, eight years ago, Trump reportedly struggled to get stars to perform for him at the inaugural ceremony and the glamorous events that followed. In contrast, the protests had a larger presence of well-known celebrities rather than the inaugural itself, whereas Barack Obama had Beyonce, Kelly Clarkson, and James Taylor, including other numbers of stars performing for his administration at the second inaugural ceremony.
There have always been celebrities who supported Trump throughout many years, some of which are aforementioned, celebrating him and his administration. Celebrities who have criticised him over the years, with mock videos or publically protested, have changed their opinions over the course. For instance, Snoop Dogg parodied Trump, when the singer was seen shooting the politician’s impersonator in his music video ‘Lavender’ in 2017. In 2016, he mocked black artists and labeled them as ‘Jigaboos’ and ‘Uncle Toms’ who supported Trump. Conversely, he performed at The Crypto Ball, and when he posted about it on his Instagram, he was massively trolled for his choices. Similarly, the Village People, the band received a lot of backlash for supporting Trump and performing at one of his ceremonies. The comments suggested that they might have fallen prey to money and being indifferent to the LGBTQ community’s consideration.
Following the election, celebrity protestors have also been quieter than in 2017, when nationwide marches brought out the likes of Cher, Madonna, and Katy Perry The People’s March in D.C. on Saturday did not boast about any celebrity participants, as per the Seattle Times.
