In a shocking incident, Saif Ali Khan was stabbed at his Bandra residence on January 16 by an unknown intruder. The actor is currently recovering at Lilavati Hospital following multiple surgeries. While various reports speculate about his discharge, ETimes exclusively contacted hospital authorities, who confirmed that Saif will not be discharged today. An official update on his health is expected to be released by the family later today.
Dr. Neeraj Uttamani, who is overseeing Saif Ali Khan’s treatment, stated, “No, Saif will not be discharged today. Further updates will be provided within half an hour, and the family will also release a statement. He is doing well.”
Police have recently arrested Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad in connection with the stabbing. Investigations have revealed that the accused previously worked as a housekeeper at The Blair All Day restaurant near the Hiranandani area of Thane.
The restaurant’s manager, Nelson Salda, disclosed that Shahzad was employed through a third-party vendor. He worked at the restaurant from September 2024 to December 2024.
Speaking about the accused, Salda stated, “We discontinued his contract after December 15. He worked with us for only two months in the housekeeping department, adhering to the standard procedures of the restaurant. He introduced himself to us as Bijoy Das. As an employee, he seemed decent.”
Saif Ali Khan’s highly anticipated OTT project, directed by Rahul Dholakia and produced by Nikkhil Advani, has been postponed following the actor’s recent stabbing incident. Saif, who sustained multiple injuries during an attack at his Bandra residence, was moved out of the ICU at Lilavati Hospital on Friday. Doctors have advised him to rest for at least a week, with limited movement, to aid his recovery.
The historical drama, initially slated to begin filming on January 20, has been deferred to prioritize Saif’s health. According to Mid-day, the production team had constructed a set at Madh Island, with co-stars Pratik Gandhi and Deepak Dobriyal prepared to start shooting. However, in light of Saif’s condition, the team decided to delay the project.
A crew member explained, “The shoot was originally planned for April but was advanced to January due to quick developments. After the unfortunate incident, the team has returned to the initial timeline, aiming to begin filming by late March or early April. The schedule may shift further as the team is committed to allowing Saif sir as much time as he needs to recover. Once he is ready, Nikkhil sir and Rahul sir will finalize the new plan based on his availability.”
The yet-untitled film is a historical drama centered on India’s first general elections, held between October 1951 and February 1952. Saif Ali Khan will play Sukumar Sen, India’s first Chief Election Commissioner, who was instrumental in orchestrating the country’s first and largest democratic process. The film promises to delve into the challenges and triumphs of conducting the world’s largest electoral exercise at the time.
