Vishnu Manchu’s upcoming mythological film, ‘Kannappa’, is touted to be one of the grand films to release on April 25th, 2025. The film features an impressive cast, including Bollywood Khiladi Akshay Kumar, who will make a special appearance as Lord Shiva. Recently the makers shared the first glimpse of the actor in the avatar of Mahadev.
In a recently shared poster, Akshay is depicted holding a trident and damru, standing confidently on one leg atop a peak. The tagline accompanying the poster reads, “The Supreme Leader Who Rules Over The Three Worlds Surrender Himself to Pure Devotion.”
Expressing his excitement about the role, Akshay Kumar stated that stepping into the sacred aura of Mahadev for ‘Kannappa’ is an honour. The actor wrote, “Stepping into the sacred aura of Mahadev for #Kannappa
. Honored to bring this epic tale to life. May Lord Shiva guide us on this divine journey. Om Namah Shivaya!”
This isn’t the first time he has portrayed a divine character; he previously played Lord Krishna in the ‘OMG’ franchise.
The film’s story revolves around Kannappa Nayannar, a devoted follower of Lord Shiva, whose legendary tale is closely linked to the Srikalahasteeswara Temple in Andhra Pradesh. According to mythology, Kannappa was so devoted that he sacrificed both his eyes for Shiva.
A few days ago, the makers shared Kajal’s poster for the film where she is seen in the divine essence of Parvathi Devi, adorned in an elegant ivory saree with gold borders and heavy jewellery. The poster describes her as “the Mother who rules over the three worlds” and “the Trishakti who protects her devotees.”
Directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, ‘Kannappa’ also stars prominent actors such as Prabhas and Kajal Aggarwal making brief appearances and also stars Mohan Babu, Madhoo, and Mohanlal in supporting roles.
The film has been shot extensively in New Zealand with the beauty of the location as integral to the film’s visual appeal.
