Yograj Singh, father of cricketer Yuvraj Singh, has ignited controversy with misogynistic comments made during a recent podcast. He claimed that women, if given power, would “destroy everything around them” and criticized the Hindi language as sounding like “a lady is talking.” His remarks have drawn significant backlash on social media.
Recently, while discussing children’s happiness with a YouTuber, Yograj Singh expressed his opinion by saying, “Baccha woh he banega jo Baap kahega,” suggesting that a child’s development is determined by their father’s guidance. When the YouTuber mentioned the film ‘Taare Zameen Par’, Yograj dismissed it, stating, “baadi he wahiyat films hai,” indicating that he does not watch such movies.
Singh also claimed that women should not be made heads of households because they “wreck” them. He stated, “A wife will destroy your house if you give her power. Sorry to say, Indira Gandhi ran this country and destroyed it. Give them respect and love, but never give them power.” His comments have sparked outrage among social media users.
‘Taare Zameen Par’ is a 2007 Hindi drama film directed by Aamir Khan, focusing on an 8-year-old boy named Ishaan Awasthi, who struggles with dyslexia. The film portrays his challenges at school and home, leading to his placement in a boarding school. There, a compassionate art teacher, Ram Shankar Nikumbh played by Aamir Khan, recognises Ishaan’s talent and helps him thrive. The film emphasises the importance of understanding children’s unique abilities and won several awards for its impactful message.
