Christopher Nolan had fans in India waiting to watch his sci-fi masterpiece ‘Interstellar’ on the big screen again on the 10th anniversary of the film’s release. However, while the movie hit the IMAX screens in the US in December, it missed its Indian release. On Friday, it was finally announced that the film’s highly awaited re-release in India was slated for February 7, 2025.
The re-release marks the 10th anniversary of the film, offering audiences a chance to relive the breathtaking visuals on the big screen once again.
During its December re-release, the film premiered across 320 screens in the US and earned an estimated $3.5 million, with an aditional $3.75 million earned from global markets.
Over its 10-day re-release period, Interstellar has amassed $10.8 million, making it the highest-grossing re-release of all time. The film’s lifetime worldwide collection now stands at $132.3 million, cementing its position as the 8th highest-grossing IMAX release ever.
However, according to reports, the film missed an IMAX re-release in India due to the dominance of Allu Arjun’s Pushpa 2: The Rule, which occupied all the IMAX screens in December. The sequel to the blockbuster Pushpa delivered a staggering performance at the box office, earning over Rs 1,700 crore worldwide.
‘Interstellar’ follows a team of explorers on a mission to secure humanity’s survival as Earth faces environmental collapse. Venturing beyond the galaxy, the crew searches for a new home among the stars.
With a star-studded cast that includes Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, Michael Caine, and Ellen Burstyn, the film, directed and co-written by Nolan, is celebrated for its groundbreaking special effects, and its exploration of time, space, and the human spirit.
Originally released in 2014, ‘Interstellar’ remains one of Nolan’s most acclaimed films, earning accolades for its scientific accuracy, emotional depth, and awe-inspiring visuals. The film was nominated for 5 Academy Awards, but won only in the Best Visual Effects category.
