Recently, a post made on social media influencer Victoria Rose aka Woah Vicky’s various handles left her fans worried sick. According to the post, Victori was abducted during her trip to Nigeria and her kidnappers demanded $1 million for her release. However, later it was revealed by the influencer herself that the whole thing was a hoax. It was nothing but a harmless prank according to Vicky.
The post has now been deleted, but purportedly from her “captors,” the message read: “I have kidnapped Vicky. She is with me in Nigeria. I am demanding $1 million for her release.” The statement went viral in no time and some worried fans reportedly filed a police complaint.
Later, during a Live session, Rose confessed it was a prank gone wrong. “We kind of got carried away with the joke. I don’t drink or go to the club, so this is how I find my entertainment,” she said. She also admitted that it was a misguided attempt to have fun which came out of boredom. “The Bible says laughter is good for the soul. So I’d be wanting to laugh, and this is how I find that funny,” she added.
“I take accountability and ownership. I’m sorry for anyone that I harmed in the process. Not thinking things through comes with consequences, and I’m paying for it now,” said Vicky on various social media channels expressing that she acknowledges the gravity of the situation.
This hoax or prank as Vicky says didn’t settle down well with the netizens. Condemning her actions, a netizen wrote – “Lying about being kidnapped is some nasty work!!” Another inquired isn’t it a crime to take something this serious this lightly.
Vicky’s apology clearly failed to pacify many who felt her actions reflected poorly on her character. She felt her humour would mean no harm, but netizens beg to differ.
