Malaika Arora has opened up about the emotional challenges she faced in 2024, calling it “a difficult year” as she navigated personal losses and changes in her life. The actress, who experienced both the end of her relationship with actor Arjun Kapoor and the heartbreaking loss of her father, took to social media to reflect on the year that brought her significant emotional turmoil.
In a heartfelt post shared on Instagram, Malaika admitted that while she didn’t “hate” the year, it was undeniably tough. She wrote, “I don’t hate you, 2024, but you were a difficult year, full of challenges, changes, and learning.” The actress acknowledged the difficult moments she had to face, from personal relationships to family tragedies.
Malaika continued, “You showed me that life can change in the blink of an eye and taught me to trust myself more.”
One of the most significant hardships for Malaika was her breakup with Arjun Kapoor, with whom she had been in a relationship since 2018. The couple frequently shared glimpses of their vacations and life together on Instagram, but in 2024, they parted ways. During the promotion of his film Singham Again, Arjun publicly confirmed that he was single, indirectly confirming the end of his relationship with Malaika. While Arjun spoke about it openly, Malaika remained silent on the matter.
On top of the breakup, Malaika faced the tragic loss of her father, Anil Mehta, in September. Mehta, who reportedly fell from the balcony of his Bandra residence, was ruled to have died by suicide by the police. This devastating event deeply affected the actress, and she received support from her close friends, including ex-husband Arbaaz Khan and Arjun Kapoor. Despite the overwhelming grief, Malaika showed immense strength, returning to work less than a month after her father’s passing.
Malaika’s post also highlighted the importance of self-care and prioritizing health, as she reflected, “But above all, you made me understand that my health, whether physical, emotional or mental, is what really matters.” She concluded with a hopeful sentiment, saying, “There are things I still can’t understand, but I believe that with time, I will understand the reasons and purposes of everything that happened.”
