Veteran actress Sujata Mehta, renowned for her bold roles in films like Pratighaat and Yateem, has once again made headlines. In a recent interview, she confirmed the long-rumoured romance between Madhuri Dixit and Sanjay Dutt, revealing details of their relationship during the late 1980s.
In an interview with Hindi Rush, Sujata discussed the real-life chemistry between Madhuri and Sanjay, which went beyond their on-screen roles. Their connection began during the filming of Zameen (1987). While Sanjay never visited the set, their intimate scenes, particularly a rain sequence, revealed the depth of their bond. Sujata also mentioned seeing photos of the sensuous rain song, which further highlighted their chemistry.
Their rumoured romance became the talk of the town after they starred together in hits like Thanedaar and Saajan. However, things reportedly changed when Sanjay Dutt was arrested in connection with the 1993 Bombay bomb blasts. While speculations about their breakup surfaced, Sujata chose not to confirm the exact reason, acknowledging only that they eventually separated.
Over the years, Madhuri chose to stay silent about her relationship with Sanjay, dismissing rumours surrounding it. While Sanjay subtly alluded to his feelings in a few interviews, neither of them ever publicly addressed their brief romance.
Interestingly, the pair reunited on screen after 22 years in Kalank (2019), delighting fans who were thrilled to see them share the frame once again, rekindling memories of their iconic on-screen chemistry.
