Shariful Islam, a Bangladeshi national, was recently arrested for allegedly stabbing actor Saif Ali Khan at his residence in Bandra, Mumbai. The incident occurred in the early hours of January 16 when Shariful allegedly broke into the 12th-floor apartment intending to commit robbery. When confronted by the 54-year-old actor, he reportedly stabbed him multiple times before fleeing the scene.
As per a report in News18, Mumbai Police used facial recognition technology to confirm Shariful’s involvement, as CCTV footage from the building matched his profile. Despite this evidence, Shariful’s father maintains that his son is being falsely implicated and plans to protest at the Indian High Commission. According to the report, Shariful’s father claims that the Mumbai Police is “framing” his son in the stabbing case.
Moreover, a Mumbai court on Jan 30 denied the police’s request to extend Shariful’s custody, placing him under judicial remand due to a lack of new grounds for detention. The Bandra magistrate noted that no additional evidence warranted further interrogation.
Authorities continue to investigate the shocking incident involving the popular Bollywood star. Meanwhile, Akash Kanojia, who was earlier detained in connection with the Saif Ali Khan case, has revealed that his engagement was called off after the prospective bride’s family withdrew upon his detention in connection with the stabbing case.
On January 16, 2025, Saif Ali Khan was rushed to Lilavati Hospital, where he stayed under observation for six days. After his discharge, Saif thanked the hospital staff and gave ₹50,000 to a rickshaw driver who had helped him reach the hospital during the attack. Amid the distress caused by a recent attack on Saif Ali Khan, the Pataudi family has made a heartfelt appeal to the paparazzi to respect their privacy, particularly requesting that their children, Jeh and Taimur, not be photographed. The couple’s call for privacy comes during a turbulent time following the attack on Saif at their Mumbai residence.
