Akshay Kumar has finally delivered a much-needed success with Sky Force, as the film earned Rs 75 crore in just five days at the box office. It has now emerged as his second-biggest success in the past two years after Sooryavanshi, marking a strong resurgence for the superstar at the box office.
After Sooryavanshi (Rs 195 crore), which was released in 2021 and became a blockbuster, Akshay has struggled to find consistent box-office success. While OMG 2 (Rs 151.16 crore) performed well in 2023, Akshay had only an extended cameo in the film. His lead-actor projects have mostly underperformed, making Sky Force a crucial comeback.
Here’s how his recent films have fared at the Indian box office:
- Bade Miyan Chote Miyan – Rs 65.96 crore
- Ram Setu – Rs 74.7 crore
- Raksha Bandhan – Rs 48.63 crore
- Mission Raniganj – Rs 34.17 crore
- Selfiee – Rs 17.03 crore
- Sarfira – Rs 24.85 crore
- Khel Khel Mein – Rs 39.29 crore
Sky Force is based on India’s retaliation attack on Pakistan’s Sargodha airbase during the 1965 war. On September 6, Pakistani forces attacked Indian air bases at Pathankot and Halwara. In response, the Indian Air Force launched an attack on Sargodha, which was considered one of the most fortified air bases in Asia. Despite the odds, Indian pilots executed the mission the next day, causing severe damage. This historic battle saw the posthumous awarding of the Maha Vir Chakra to Squadron Leader Ajjamada Boppayya Devayya—the only instance of an IAF pilot receiving the honor.
Directed by Sandeep Kewlani and Abhishek Anil Kapur, Sky Force is produced by Dinesh Vijan.Akshay has an exciting lineup for 2025, including Housefull 5, Welcome to the Jungle, Jolly LLB 3, and The Untold Story of C. Sankaran Nair.
