Kabir Khan recently visited the Maha Kumbh Mela in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh, expressing his excitement and spiritual connection to the historic event. Kabir, who plans to stay for a few days, shared his intention of taking the sacred dip at the confluence of the Ganga, Yamuna, and Saraswati rivers, a ritual believed to cleanse sins and lead to spiritual liberation.
Speaking to ANI, Kabir highlighted the once-in-12-years significance of the Maha Kumbh Mela, calling it a profound event rooted in Indian civilisation. Despite being a Muslim, the director dismissed any religious divide, stating, “These things are not about Hindus and Muslims; they are about our origin, our civilisation. If you believe you are an Indian, then you should feel everything.” His remarks underscored the cultural unity embodied by the Maha Kumbh, transcending religious boundaries and celebrating India’s shared heritage.
The ongoing Maha Kumbh, which commenced on January 13 with Paush Purnima, has already witnessed over 110 million devotees participating in the holy bath. The Prayagraj Railway Division has arranged over 150 special trains to accommodate the massive influx of pilgrims, especially as the highly anticipated Mauni Amavasya on January 29 approaches.
Professionally, Kabir Khan’s last outing ‘Chandu Champion’, starring Kartik Aaryan, Vijay Raaz, and Bhuvan Arora, garnered critical acclaim for its inspiring portrayal of Murlikant Petkar, India’s first Paralympic gold medalist. Earlier this month, Murlikant was honored with the prestigious Arjuna Lifetime Achievement Award. Kabir, along with Kartik Aaryan, attended the award ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan in Delhi, celebrating the athlete who inspired the film.
The director also shared his experience on Instagram, writing, “What a privilege it was for @kartikaaryan and me to witness @murlikantpetkar receive the Lifetime Arjuna award at the Rashtrapati Bhawan.” Kartik Aaryan also posted about the event, expressing his feelings of pride and gratitude. His caption read, “From living your incredible life on the big screen to witnessing you receive the Arjuna Lifetime Achievement Award, at Rashtrapati Bhawan today, It felt surreal. Every moment was like a dream. Now our film Chandu Champion seems to have found its perfect ending, but knowing you, an unstoppable champion, this can’t be the climax… Keep inspiring Sir.”
