Akshay Kumar was always known for doing his own stunts, ever since the 90s. He was touted as the ultimate action hero and even now, sometimes, he prefers doing his own stunts. Though, he has stopped doing such risky stunts now, because of his family’s advice to him. In a recent interview, Akshay recalled his most dangerous stunt where director Mahesh Bhatt just ran away.
This was for the 1998 film ‘Angaaray’ which was directed by Mahesh Bhatt. Akshay said during a chat with The Quint, “There was a stunt in Angaaray which I did jumping from a seven floor building. In between, there was a road, but only one lane, and there was another building on the other side. So, I had to jump from the seventh to fourth floor. During that, my director ran away.”
He added, “He further added, “Mahesh Bhatt was my director and before I could even do the stunt, he just ran away. He said, ‘Merko nahi dekhna hai, yeh marr jaayega’ (He said I don’t want to watch, he is going to die). He went away, so I did that shot without my director.”
Earlier, during an old conversation with Amar Ujala Samvad, Akshay had revealed the real reason for not taking the help of body doubles for stunts. “Our audience buys tickets of Rs 250, Rs 350 and come to watch us. They would like to see real things. I don’t want them to feel cheated. Some stunts are there, which you should not try and do it. They are very risky. That’s where you take VFX’s help,” he shared.
Akshay is seen in ‘Sky Force’ which is running in theatres at the moment and doing decently well at the box office.
