Should Authorities Compensate Wrongfully Detained Individuals?
The Colaba resident shared with Hindustan Times that on January 17, he was traveling on the Jnaneswar Express to Bilaspur to visit his sick grandmother and meet his potential bride when he was detained by Railway Protection Force (RPF) officers at the station.
This occurred after the Mumbai police mistakenly alerted the RPF, falsely identifying Kanojia as the person involved in the failed robbery attempt at the actor’s Mumbai residence.
The 31-year-old shared that after his arrest, his photos were widely broadcasted on TV and in media, which caused him to lose his job. Additionally, the bride’s family refused to meet him, leading to a setback in his personal life.
Kanojia revealed that after his arrest, the RPF not only detained him but also issued a press release with his photograph, which was widely shared by TV channels and media. As a result, the bride’s family canceled their meeting with him, and his employer terminated his job.
Kanojia, who worked as a driver for a tour company associated with Western Railway in Mumbai, mentioned that on January 17, he received a call from the Mumbai police inquiring about his whereabouts. When he informed the officer that he was at home, the call was abruptly disconnected.
The following day, Kanojia boarded the Jnaneswari Express from Mumbai, planning to visit his sick grandmother in Nehla, Chhattisgarh. He was supposed to change trains in Bilaspur before heading to Nehla and was also set to meet the family of his prospective bride.
