Aarya Babbar has openly expressed his disappointment over being excluded from his brother Prateik Patil Babbar’s wedding to actor Priya Banerjee. Aarya, the son of actor-MP Raj Babbar and Nadira Babbar, believes that Prateik disrespected his late mother, Smita Patil, by not inviting the one person she truly loved—his father, Raj Babbar.
“Main iss hadd tak kehta hoon ki theek hai hamari maa Naadira ko nahi bulana chahte the woh, for whatever reason… I will give him the benefit of the doubt. He didn’t want to invite me or my sister Juuhi (Babbar), okay. But at least he should have invited that person who Smita maa had loved, his father. Yeh cheez disrespect hai towards Smita maa,” Aarya told Hindustan Times.
When asked if they had reached out to Prateik after the wedding announcement, or if he had informed them, the 43-year-old replied, “The fact that we have tried reaching out or not doesn’t matter, because for the past few months he has decided to not answer anyone’s calls, for whatever reason. It is extremely hurtful.”
Interestingly, Aarya’s WhatsApp display picture still features him and the family in happier times with Prateik. When this was pointed out, he said, “Maine kabhi itna directly bola nahi hai, par mujhe baat buri lagi. Main itna hurt hoon, but I can’t bring myself to change the picture. Pata nahi, kuchh log usko overpower kar rahe hain, ya pata nahi kya ho gaya. I just wish things work out best for him. To take such a big step without the blessings of your parents… we didn’t even know he is getting married.”
Prateik Babbar and Priya Banerjee tied the knot on Valentine’s Day in an intimate ceremony, choosing to celebrate their love in a deeply personal way. The couple opted for a ghar ki shaadi, marrying in the very house that Prateik’s late mother, legendary actress Smita Patil, had purchased in Bandra, Mumbai.
The wedding was a private affair, attended only by their closest family and friends. The pre-wedding rituals, including haldi and mehendi, were followed by a traditional ceremony. However, the wedding also made headlines for the absence of the Babbar family. Neither Prateik’s father, Raj Babbar, nor his half-siblings, Aarya and Juhi Babbar, were invited.
Speaking to ETimes, Aarya Babbar expressed his surprise, saying, “Nobody from the Babbar family was invited—not even my father.” He also hinted at external influence, stating, “I presume someone has overpowered his brain too much. He is not wanting to connect with anyone from this side of the family.”
This marks Prateik’s second marriage, following his previous union with Sanya Sagar. As he embarks on a new journey with Priya Banerjee, he continues to honor his late mother’s memory while embracing a future filled with love.
