The Economic Survey makes a case for going vegan and avoiding meat and dairy on the grounds of sustainability. According to the report, “nudging family, friends and colleagues to a more sustainable dietary preference and moderation in lifestyles globally may be an idea whose time has come”.
It quotes UN Framework Convention on Climate Change to highlight how cutting dairy and meat can reduce emission by 66%. Estimates show 17% of food available worldwide is wasted annually, amounting to over 8% of global greenhouse gas emissions. It is said “if food waste were a country, it would be third-largest emitting country in the world”.
