Deva, directed by Malayalam filmmaker Rosshan Andrrews in his Hindi debut, was released on January 31. According to Sacnilk, the film, starring Shahid Kapoor and Pooja Hegde, earned about Rs 11.37 crore on its first Saturday.
According to the website, Deva made Rs 5.5 crore on its opening day and around Rs 5.87 crore on its first Saturday, bringing the total to Rs 11.37 crore. On Saturday, the film had 5.84 percent occupancy for morning shows, 11.28 percent in the afternoon, and 14.20 percent in the evening.
Given the competition from Sky Force, it remains to be seen how much the film will earn in its first weekend. On Saturday, the film’s producer, Zee Studios, announced that the action drama made Rs 10.31 crore gross on its opening day, with Rs 6.82 crore gross in India and Rs 3.49 crore gross overseas. The trade website reported a collection of Rs 6.60 crore gross in India and Rs 10.10 crore worldwide.
Deva follows the story of ACP Dev Ambre, played by Shahid Kapoor. Dev is a womaniser and a hot-headed cop who loses his memory while investigating his best friend’s murder. The film is adapted from Rosshan Andrrews’ 2013 Malayalam movie Mumbai Police, which starred Prithviraj Sukumaran. However, several key changes were made to the script, especially the big reveal in the climax. Pooja Hegde plays Dev’s girlfriend, a journalist named Divya Sathaye.
The film got mixed reviews from both critics and audiences, but Shahid’s performance was widely praised.
Meanwhile, ahead of the film’s release, Shahid Kapoor shared a heartfelt note on his social media handle. He expressed how elated he was the movie was a result of his 1 year of hard work.
