Set against the backdrop of a bustling Mumbai, the story highlights the city’s inherent beauty and its edgy undercurrents. With Pooja Hegde as the leading lady, the film also features an ensemble supporting cast, including Pavail Gulati, Pravesh Rana, Girish Kulkarni, Kubbra Sait, and Aditi Sandhya Sharma.
As Deva follows Shahid’s Kabir Singh, fans have drawn comparisons between the two characters. However, the actor clarified in a media statement: “It’s an aggressive character, but Deva is very Deva—there is no Kabir Singh in it. Deva is also not like any other character… Until Kabir Singh, people would ask, ‘Oh! Is he like Tommy Singh in Udta Punjab?'”
Meanwhile, leading lady Pooja Hegde shared her reason for accepting the film: “Sometimes you want to work with the filmmaker; sometimes you like the character… I have decided to take on roles that make my soul happy as an actor. In Deva, I really liked the character,” she said in a statement.
Originally slated for release on 11 October 2024 (Dussehra), the film was postponed to 14 February 2025 (Valentine’s Day). However, the makers later advanced the release date, settling on 31 January 2025.
Regarding box office expectations, Deva is predicted to have a slow start, with an estimated opening day collection of around Rs 5-10 crore. Trade experts estimate advance ticket sales at approximately Rs 1.7 crore, while the film’s gross collections, including block bookings, are expected to reach around Rs 3.5 crore.
Whether the film can cross the Rs 10 crore mark on its opening day remains to be seen. Trade analysts suggest that Deva will rely heavily on word of mouth to gain momentum and secure a strong debut weekend.
The film’s music is composed by Jakes Bejoy, features songs by Vishal Mishra. Cinematography is handled by Amit Roy, while A. Sreekar Prasad is in charge of editing.
