Sooraj Barjatya‘s ‘Hum Aapke Hai Koun…!’ starring Salman Khan and Madhuri Dixit is one of the most iconic movies of Indian cinema. It shall continue to be etched in the history of Indian cinema, and Salman-Madhuri’s chemistry will forever be iconic. However, despite that, Barjatya did not cast Madhuri in ‘Hum Saath Saath Hai‘ and the director had a very strong reason for it. There were rumours that the actress was supposed to be a part of the film and even Juhi Chawla, Manisha Koirala were approached. However, Barjatya clarified these rumours in a recent interview.
He said during a chat with Radio Nasha, “Madhuri had called me that she would like to be a part of the film. But I told her, ‘Madhuri, I am making a male-dominated picture and if I cast you opposite Salman, then it is a very small role for you and if I cast you opposite Mohnish Bahl, then you will be playing bhabhi to Salman Khan.'”
Barjatya further added, “But Madhuri is such a lovely lady. She said, ‘said ‘It doesn’t matter, it is a joy to work together.’ But then I said I will not be comfortable.”
Eventually, Tabu was cast opposite Mohnish Behl as she did not have the baggage of any image. Meanwhile, Madhuri and Salman already were a hit pair because of ‘Hum Aapke Hai Koun..’, thus Tabu was cast opposite Behl. Eventually, Sonali Bendre was cast opposite Salman in the film and fans still love their chemistry.
‘Hum Saath Saath Hai’ also starred Saif Ali Khan and Karisma Kapoor.
