Ameesha Patel is recently celebrating 25 years of her debut film ‘Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai‘, which re-released in theatres. Ameesha was last seen in ‘Gadar 2’ with Sunny Deol. When she made her debut alongside Hrithik Roshan, both the actors became overnight stars. There were also a lot of offers that they got and Ameesha worked with some of the top stars. During that time, rumours were rife that Ameesha got newbie Emraan Hashmi removed from a film as he was quite new but she was already popular.
The actress has now broken silence on whether this was true in an interview recently. Ameesha said during a chat with Hindi Rush, “Nahi maine nikala nahi tha. Emraan Ji ka ye bahut purana qissa hai. Hum log Mahesh Bhatt ji ki film kar rahe the, ‘Ye Zindagi Ka Safar’ Govinda ji ke saath. But Chi Chi backed out at the last minute. Phir they said ki hamara rishte mein koi nephew hai aur we will do a photo session aur usme Emraan Hashmi ji itne nervous ho gaye the. Mahesh Bhatt ji ne koffee with Karan mein bhi kaha tha ye baat ki Ameesha itni badi star thi Gadar 1 ke baad ki Emraan nervous ho gaya tha. (No, this is not true. This is a very old incident. We were doing a film with Mahesh Bhatt called ‘Ye Zindagi Ka Safar’ which had Govinda. But Chi Chi backed out of the movie last minute. That’s when Bhatt sahab said they have their nephew who they should do a photoshoot with and see if he suits. It was Emraan Hashmi. But he was so nervous that time. Mahesh Bhatt ji also spoke about it on ‘Koffee With Karan’ and said, ‘Ameesha was such a big star post ‘Gadar 1’, that Emraan just got nervous).”
However, earlier, in an interview with Lallantop, Emraan had said his side of the story and revealed that Ameesha felt he won’t be able to pull it off and that she wanted an experienced actor. He had said, “Ameesha felt I wouldn’t be able to pull it off. She had just delivered a hit film (Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai), so she was worried; she wanted the casting to be right for the hero. She wanted an experienced actor to be cast for the role, not someone totally inexperienced, someone who’s only done one-month’s acting course. So, she went to Bhatt sahab and said, ‘I don’t think Emraan is the right fit‘. I was infuriated; I was very angry with her. Now, when I look back, I feel Ameesha, from her point of view, was correct.”
