Directed by Adam J. Graves, ‘Anuja’ has been nominated for Best Live Action Short Film at the 97th Academy Awards. It competes against other notable films such as Alien, I’m Not a Robot, The Last Ranger, and A Man Who Would Not Remain Silent. The Oscar nominations were announced on January 23 by Bowen Yang and Rachel Sennott.
The film tells the touching story of a nine-year-old girl, Anuja, who works with her older sister, Palak, in a garment factory located in a back-alley. As the narrative unfolds, Anuja is confronted with a life-changing decision that will not only shape her future but also affect her family’s survival.
In a statement shared by ANI, Priyanka Chopra shares, “This beautiful film shines a spotlight on a subject that affects millions of children around the world, who are faced with the impossible decision between a future they cannot yet see and the immediate realities of their present. Anuja is a poignant, thought-provoking piece that makes us reflect deeply on the power of choices and how they shape the course of our lives. I am immensely proud to be associated with such a phenomenal and impactful project.”
Anuja has received significant support from international stars, including Priyanka Chopra and Guneet Monga. Chopra, who is backing the project. This film marks a significant milestone for Guneet Monga, as ‘Anuja’ is her third Oscar nomination, following previous wins for ‘The Elephant Whisperers’ and ‘Period: End of Sentence’.
