The 83rd edition of Indian Derby, the pinnacle of Indian horse racing, is set to be held at the Mahalaxmi race course on February 2 (Sunday).

Horse Power Sports League (HPSL) returns as the sponsor of this event for the second time and the race will be titled the HPSL Indian Derby (Gr. 1).

A hallmark of the Indian racing calendar since 1943, the marquee event will witness a field of 16 vying for a total prize money of over ₹2.8 crore with winner’s purse being around ₹1.7 crore.

To add to the excitement, the weekend will see world-class jockeys Oisin Murphy, David Allan, Tom Marquand, Christophe Lemaire, and William Lee showcasing their talent.

Racegoers will have the opportunity to win big. A lucky draw offers cash prizes totalling ₹1 million, while the bumper jackpot boasts an added net amount of ₹50 lakh, which could swell to over ₹1 crore.

Suresh Paladuggu, Managing Director, HPSL, said “What we have been doing for the last one year is visible to all. Our support to Indian racing started last year with the sponsorship of the Indian Derby. We had a record crowd last year and hope that record will be broken this year.

“At HPSL, we will continue to support not only as a sponsor but also intend to increase the interaction with the audience and fans. We are coming up with a platform with huge undertakings and are committed towards the Indian racing industry.”
