Gokulam Kerala’s redemption song continued on Wednesday.

Over the weekend, the former champion had, for the first time this season, shown what it was really capable of in its 6-2 win against Inter Kashi. On Wednesday night, the host may not have been just as impressive but did well enough to score full points against a fighting SC Bengaluru.

The Gokulam men won 2-0, their second successive victory at home, and moved into the second spot on the I-League points table. They now have 19 points, the same as Churchill Brothers, just two points behind the leader Namdhari FC.

From the beginning, they looked keen to continue from where they left off over the weekend and produced some scoring chances early on.

But the Bengaluru goalkeeper Yuya Kuriyama pushed away three shots at the goal in succession, but seconds later, in the eighth minute, the host scored.

The pass from V.P. Suhair, from inside the box, was driven neatly into the near corner by Nacho Abeledo. The Spaniard, who had been brilliant against Inter Kashi too, would strike again, late into the match, off a counterattack.

The visitor tried hard to score but was let down by poor finishing. It was indeed another disappointing night for Bengaluru, which remains at the bottom of the league, with eight points.

The result: Gokulam Kerala 2 (Nacho Abeledo 8 & 89) bt SC Bengaluru 0.
