CHENNAI: The newly registered Samsung employees’ union is expected to hold talks with the company management regarding wage revision and better working conditions.
The state govt, through the labour department, on Monday registered the Chennai plant workers’ trade union ‘Samsung India Thozhilalar Sangam‘ after the Madras High Court directive to decide on the matter.
Members of the union are expected to hold tripartite talks with the company representatives and labour department officials on January 30, according to workers and functionaries involved in the discussion.
The key demand is increasing wages to 36,000 over three years, said Centre for Indian Trade Unions state president A Soundararajan.
“Our demands are pay hike, bonus, insurance benefits, leave, reducing the working hours from 8. 40 hours and a 5-day work week,” he said, adding that around 1,400 employees are members of the union.
Hundreds of Samsung employees participated in a strike for over a month in 2024 demanding registration of the workers’ union, severely impacting the production at the electronics manufacturing facility.
