Punjab FC is hoping to be more clinical in front of goal than it has managed in recent matches when it faces Jamshedpur FC in the Indian Super League (ISL) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Tuesday.
Having not registered a single victory since beating Mohammedan on December 6 — the Panagiotis Dilmperis-coached side has had two draws and four losses in the last six matches — it needs to get back to winning ways urgently to mount a challenge for the playoffs.
“Yes, of course,” Dilmperis told reporters, when asked about Punjab’s lack of goals being a concern. “In the last game against Mumbai City, we created 15 chances and scored only one goal. We should be in a position where we score at least three goals when we have 15 chances. Players are putting in a lot of hard work. They are motivated. I am curious how the things I saw in recent training sessions are implemented during the game.”
Jamshedpur will start Tuesday’s game as the clear favourite. Though the team from Jharkhand lost its last game against Hyderabad, it is still comfortably placed at fourth in the standings with 28 points from 16 matches. The home side, which has 20 points after 15 matches, is languishing at ninth.
