Bihar Kokila Sharda Sinha’s son reacts to her posthumous Padma Vibhushan honour: ‘This was long awaited…’

The late Sharda Sinha who was popularly called ‘Bihar Kokila’ has now been announced as a recipient of a Padma Vibhushan. Earlier, the popular folk singer was awarded with a Padma Bhushan. And now getting this posthumous Padma Vibhushan is a huge honour for her family. Her son Anshuman Sinha has reacted to this honour and said that it was long awaited.
He told ANI, “It is a matter of great pride for Bihar. It is a milestone in Bihar’s history to have achieved all three highest honours in the field of folk music.” He further added, “I thank the Central government as this will convey a message to the upcoming generation that you can gain respect all over the world through folk music… This was long awaited and I heartily accept it… I congratulate the entire nation for the honour bestowed upon folk culture.”
Sharda passed away on November 5, 2024 at the age of 72. She was popular for her songs on ‘Chatth Pooja’ and remained synonymous with the occasion. The singer was cremated with full state honours in Patna.
Knowing her popularity and achievements when it comes to folk music, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Home Minister Amit Shah, Union Minister Giriraj Singh, Union Minister Rajnath Singh, Union Minister Chirag Paswan, Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi among many others had paid that tribute to Sharda when she passed away.
