NEW DELHI: Union minister Ashwini Vaishnaw has said that the world is looking at India as a global production hub and as a destination for the co-creation of technology, developing new applications and for domestic demand.
Vaishnaw, who is part of a delegation of Union ministers and state chief ministers at Davos, to pitch India as an attractive investment and business destination among the world’s top CEOs, said several investment proposals have been discussed and added that investors were interested in multiple sectors – from technology to tourism, aviation, food processing and skilling.
Underlining that the US will be an important partner, he said India’s relationship has evolved over the last decade. “We are co-developing many technologies. We are co-creating many products. We have taken up many joint research programmes and we are part of the QUAD where we have common interests in the security of the world. We have many common geostrategic interests… We believe that the relationship of trust between the US and India will help the growth of both the countries whether it is in the technology economy and many other sectors,” Vaishnaw said when asked about the impact of Donald Trump administration on ties with India.
He sought to position India as a partner, which seeks to develop a relationship based on trust. “Trust comes with a lot of effort. It requires tremendous hard work, transparency, and a period of understanding each other,” he said, while responding to a query on India’s relations with the EU.
Vaishnaw said solidarity between the NDA and Opposition ruled states was visible at Davos with all state pavilions aligned with the Centre’s own Bharat Pavilion, the central team and representatives of states held a joint press conference for the first time, projecting India as a unified investment-friendly destination.
“India’s economy remains resilient, with consistent growth in the 6-8% range,” Vaishnaw said.
