Bridget Jones is making her much-anticipated return, well in time to celebrate the season of love. The latest instalment in the beloved series, titled ‘Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy‘, based on Helen Fielding’s bestselling novels, is set to hit the big screens on 14 February 2025.
The film which follows Bridget on a heartfelt and hilarious new chapter of her life, sees Renée Zellweger reprise her iconic role as Bridget Jones, joined by Colin Firth as the late Mark Darcy and Hugh Grant as the charming Daniel Cleaver. Reflecting on her return to the character, Zellweger shared the emotional connection she feels with Bridget. “It’s funny, I can chronicle my own decades and life experiences around making these films with the extended Bridget family,” she said. “Bridget reminds us that it’s okay to be imperfect. You can still get the guy, succeed, and be happy by just being yourself.”
Zellweger also credited director Michael Morris for inspiring her return to the franchise. “When we met, Michael was so honest,” she explained. “He wanted to tell these moments of life in a way that feels relatable and truthful.”
Set four years after the tragic death of her husband, Mark Darcy, during a humanitarian mission in Sudan, Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy explores Bridget’s journey as a single mother raising her two children, Billy and Mabel. Balancing work, home, and the judgment of perfect mums at her children’s school, Bridget relies on the unwavering support of her loyal friends and the surprising presence of her former lover, Daniel Cleaver.
The story dives deep into resilience, grief, and the courage to embrace love and second chances, all told with Bridget’s signature wit and vulnerability.
New to the cast is Leo Woodall, who plays Roxster, a dashing park ranger and intriguing addition to Bridget’s romantic life.
