Rappers Divine and Naezy are closely associated with the success of ‘Gully Boy‘, a 2019 film about Mumbai’s underground rap scene. Directed by Zoya Akhtar and starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt, the movie was praised for its portrayal of street rappers. However, Naezy recently expressed frustration, saying the film took many creative liberties and strayed far from reality.
Talking to Mashable India, Naezy talked about ‘Gully Boy’ and how it changed his life. He said the film is “pure fiction” and that many events, like the rapper meeting others, were made up. Naezy felt annoyed that the truth wasn’t shown but recognised that Bollywood is all about fiction. He pointed out inaccuracies, such as the portrayal of his father having two marriages, which isn’t true. While he understands the film is not real, he worries that audiences might think it reflects his actual life.

‘Gully Boy’ was co-produced by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani’s Excel Entertainment and Zoya Akhtar’s Tiger Baby Films. The film has a great cast, including Siddhant Chaturvedi in his Bollywood debut, along with notable performances by Vijay Raaz, Vijay Varma, Amruta Subhash, Kalki Koechlin, and Sheeba Chaddha.
