MUMBAI: The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has directed Patanjali Foods to recall a batch of red chilli powder due to non-conformance of regulations over contaminants, toxins and residues, the company said in an exchange filing on Thursday. The Baba Ramdev-led company did not issue a detailed statement on the matter.
Patanjali Foods operates in the competitive FMCG space and sells a range of edible oils and packaged foods including biscuits, noodles and sugar. Patanjali Foods had reported a 21% increase in standalone net profit to Rs 309 crore in the Sept quarter. Total income grew to Rs 8,199 crore during the period.
The domestic spice industry came under scrutiny in the previous year following the suspension of sales of certain products by spice makers MDH and Everest in Hong Kong and Singapore due to alleged high levels of a cancer-causing pesticide. Govt too initiated inspections of the companies’ facilities to ensure compliance with quality standards, TOI had reported.
Patanjali Foods will set up an oil palm mill in Mizoram, a company executive told PTI. Two executives met CM Lalduhoma on Thursday in Aizawl regarding this, PTI reported.
