The Indian political landscape has witnessed many iconic as well as controversial moments, and needless to say, the emergency period of 1975 was certainly one of them. Chronicling the events of that era, Kangana Ranaut’s solo directorial ‘Emergency’ made it to the theatres on January 17. Owing to the subject, the movie faced a lot of curve balls, but upon release, internet users appreciated the film for its unbiased portrayal of historical events and characters. Perhaps that is one of the reasons that the film has been able to maintain a steady pace at the box office. Earlier reports suggested that on Wednesday, the movie made only Rs. 0.85 crore, but the latest Sacnilk update states it rounded up to Rs.1 Crore. Now the early estimates state that on Thursday as well, the movie made the same numbers.
According to Sacnilk, the movie made Rs 1 crore on both Tuesday and Wednesday, and the early estimated figures for Thursday show the same. Thus, the total business of the movie in India net is Rs. 14.40 crore after a run of 7 days of theatrical release. Many reports suggest that the movie would have earned better if the screenings in Punjab had not been canceled.

Day-wise net collection of ‘Emergency’ in India

Day 1 [1st Friday] – ₹ 2.5 Cr
Day 2 [1st Saturday] – ₹ 3.6 Cr
Day 3 [1st Sunday] – ₹ 4.25 Cr
Day 4 [1st Monday] – ₹ 1.05 Cr
Day 5 [1st Tuesday] – ₹ 1 Cr
Day 6 [1st Wednesday] – ₹ 1 Cr
Day 7 [1st Thursday] – ₹ 1 Cr (early estimates)
Total – ₹ 14.40 Cr
Despite a steady pace, it can be seen that the overall business is slow. However, it is not slow just for ‘Emergency,’ other competing movies are witnessing a similar fate. Kangana Ranaut starrer period drama has outperformed the competition by a margin, as on Wednesday Ram Charana’s ‘Game Changer’ only collected Rs. 0.75 crores, while Ajay Devgn’s ‘Azaad,’ which introduced Rasha Thandani and Aman Devgan failed to reach even Rs. 0.50 crore mark.
