Rachel Sennott, ‘The Idol’ actress, and Bowen Yang, the ‘Wicked’ actor, are set to announce the 97th Academy Awards (Oscar) nominations on January 23, 2025. The announcements will be presented as a live presentation from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ Samuel Goldwyn Theater.
The nominations were originally supposed to be announced on January 17, however, the wildfires that flamed the city of Angels caused damage to many lives. In the wake of the unfortunate catastrophe, the academy decided to postpone the announcement on January 19, which is now confirmed to be proclaimed on January 23, 2025. The voting period for the nominees was extended till January 17, as well. The Annual luncheon of the Oscar Nominees was canceled by The Academy and further decided to donate $250,000 to help aid the affected.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the two actors-writers-comedians shall announce nominees of all the 24 categories of the award. The announcement will be streamed live on the official handles of social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, and YouTube as well as on the Academy’s websites such as Oscar.com and Oscar.org.
Further, the event will be streamed among various OTT platforms such as Disney + and Hulu, and television channels such as ABC News Live and broadcast on ABC’s Good Morning America. Conan O’Brien is set to host the 97th Academy Awards on March 2, 2025, which will be held at Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.
Sennott is renowned for her roles in various films such as ‘Shiva Baby’, ‘Bodies Bodies Bodies’, ‘Bottoms’, and ‘Saturday Night’, the film about the 90-minute behind-the-scenes of the first ever ‘SNL’ show which was broadcast, where she played Rosie Shuster.
Yang, the comedian who stars in NBC’s ‘SNL’, recently enchanted audiences with his performance in ‘Wicked’.
