Legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra once shared an intriguing anecdote about his long-standing association with Shah Rukh Khan, showcasing the actor’s unique work ethic and their remarkable camaraderie.
According to a story published in Pinkvilla, Yash Chopra revealed in an old interview that Shah Rukh never once asked about the story of a film he was approached for.
According to the late filmmaker, Shah Rukh’s trust in him and his son Aditya Chopra’s vision was unwavering. The superstar would respond with, “Adi has written it, you’re directing? I’ll do it,” without ever questioning the plot or the payment. This rare quality made Shah Rukh stand apart, with Chopra noting that SRK was the only actor he had met in two decades who showed such blind faith.
SRK’s refusal to take any payment during the production phase of their collaborations also amazed the legendary director. While Yash Chopra insisted on paying him before a film’s release, Shah Rukh often called to say, “I think you’ve given me a bit too much.” This gesture reflected their bond of mutual respect and trust.
Yash also recalled one instance where he angrily expressed frustration over SRK’s absence before a film started. However, Shah Rukh assured him that a pre-production meeting wasn’t necessary, emphasizing his commitment to Yash Chopra’s projects. SRK’s pledge was simple yet profound, he would dedicate himself entirely to Yash Chopra’s film, refraining from taking up any other work until it was completed.
Meanwhile, SRK and Yash Chopra’s last collaboration was for the romantic drama film ‘Jab Tak Hai Jaan’.
