Legendary writer Javed Akhtar marked 50 years of the iconic film Deewaar on Tuesday, which he co-wrote with Salim Khan. Before Amitabh Bachchan became famous for Deewaar, he had already starred in Salim-Javed’s Zanjeer, a movie that helped revive his career.
In a recent episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati, Amitabh opened up about how the failure of his early films left him so discouraged that he even thought of quitting acting to become an auto-rickshaw driver. However, fate took a different turn when Salim-Javed cast him in Zanjeer, a role that changed the course of his career.

Bachchan also shared that after working in a few films that didn’t succeed, he felt discouraged. Before moving to Mumbai, he had worked in Kolkata, earning only 400-500 rupees a month. However, he was determined to succeed in Mumbai and even got his driving license, planning to drive a taxi if acting didn’t work out.

In a throwback interview on the show, Yaaron Ki Baraat, Big B shared a humorous memory with Shatrughan Sinha during their early days in Mumbai. He recalled how Sinha would often ask him to push his old car along Marine Drive, jokingly saying, “Push properly.” Bachchan reminisced about those struggling times, with Sinha encouraging him to push the car, which became a bonding moment between the two.
