American model and television personality, Chrissy Teigan went vocal about her thoughts and accused the President-elect of the US of manipulating the young generation as well as the masses by portraying himself as a saviour. On Saturday evening, TikTok displayed a message about the ban, and how the Trump’s administration is going to reinstate the app. The app was unavailable from major app stores.
Teigan, however, went on to her Instagram stories and mentioned, “Okay, let’s talk ‘TikTok’, everyone’s bummed OMG I can’t believe it’s going to shut down! It’s not going to be shut down. It’s on a hiatus for now, it’s gonna come back. And it’s gonna come back under Trump’s leadership, so every young person is gonna be like OMG, I’m so grateful! It’s Back! He brought it back! He brought my free speech, oh my god.”
She continued, “And all of a sudden, he gets to claim this amazing thing he did to people. That’s for sure gonna happen. And you’re gonna fall right back into it. Also, I would say as somebody who has not been on TikTok – willingly, my Instagram’s reels are on point, my algorithm is IT, honestly.” Later, she suggested that in the future the ‘ethics committee’ should adopt, banning social media from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
The TikTok message displayed, “Sorry, TikTok isn’t available right now. A law banning TikTok has been enacted in the U.S. Unfortunately, this means you can’t use TikTok for now. We are fortunate that President Trump has indicated that he will work with us on a solution to reinstate TikTok once he takes office. Please stay tuned!”
President-elect Donald J. Trump wrote a note on his Truth Social, “I am asking companies not to let TikTok stay dark! I will issue an executive order on Monday to extend the period of time before the law’s prohibitions take effect so that we can make a deal to protect our national security. The order will also confirm that there will be no liability for any company that helped keep TikTok from going dark before my order.”
