League leader Mohun Bagan Super Giant holds all the aces as it takes on Chennaiyin FC in an Indian Super League match at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Tuesday.
The Bagan forwards — led by Jamie Maclaren — will give a stern test to Chennaiyin, which squandered two-goal leads in its last two games.
Gaffer Owen Coyle’s one-match suspension has only added to CFC’s misery.
“We have not had a settled defence most of this season. You wouldn’t want to change the defence across 100 minutes because once the opposition scores one goal, they are raring to go for another,” CFC assistant coach Noel Wilson said in the pre-match press conference.
After 16 games each, Bagan has a six-point lead at the top of the table (36 points) whereas CFC lies 10th (17).
The visitor, too, had a blip in its last outing as it stumbled to a 1-1 draw against Jamshedpur FC on a day that saw the MBSG attackers not being able to capitalise on their chances.
Head coach Jose Molina, however, was confident his boys could turn things around quickly. “I would be worried if my attackers didn’t have chances to score. But, that is not the situation. I am sure that the goals will come,” Molina said.
