Raveena Tandon’s daughter Rasha Thadani and Ajay Devgn’s nephew Aaman Devgan made their debut with Abhishek Kapoor’s movie ‘Azaad’. The newcomers were launched in this grand movie which released on Friday. While the songs of the movie, especially ‘Uyi Amma’ became a sensation, that did not reflect in the movie getting a good opening. ‘Azaad’ opened at a dull Rs 1.5 crore on Friday.
On Saturday, the collection saw a slight dip and it made Rs 1.3 crore. However, there was a slight jump on Sunday, though that as significant. According to Sacnilk, the movie made Rs 1.85 crore on day 3. Thus the collection of the first weekend is Rs 4.65 crore which is below average.
The film had released with Kangana Ranaut starrer ‘Emergency’ which is doing much better. It opened at Rs 2.5 crore on Friday and showed a good jump on Saturday of around 44 percent and made Rs 3.6 crore. On Sunday, there was more growth and it made around Rs 4.35 crore. Thus, the total first weekend collection of ‘Emergency’ is Rs 10.45 crore which is much higher than ‘Azaad’. However, more was expected out of the movie.
But there was good word of mouth for ‘Emergency’ which ‘Azaad’ lacked, hence there was no growth on the weekend.
At the moment, both, Azaad and Emergency, still continue to face some competition from Allu Arjun starrer ‘Pushpa 2’.
