Bhagyashree has called for stronger measures to secure India’s borders after the accused in the recent Saif Ali Khan stabbing incident was revealed to be from Bangladesh, according to Mumbai police. The attack on Saif Ali Khan took place on January 16 at his Bandra home, leaving the actor with serious injuries, including stab wounds to his thoracic spine.
Speaking to ANI at an event in Indore, Bhagyashree expressed concern over the safety of Mumbai residents, saying, “When incidents like this happen in Mumbai, everyone gets tense. The local public too. It’s not about Bollywood, it’s about the safety of everyone. Everyone’s safety is under a question mark. And especially if an immigrant does something like this, then we should definitely secure our Indian borders, very important.”
She added that she was “shocked” by the attack, especially since Mumbai is considered one of the safest cities in India. “We who live in Mumbai are very shocked by what happened. After the incident, obviously, everyone is tense. But the police are doing their job well. And I think in the latest news, the assailant has been caught. Therefore, I hope the legal process starts soon.”
The accused, identified as Mohd Shariful Islam Shehzad from Bangladesh’s Jhalokati district, was arrested by the Mumbai police. Police say he entered Saif Ali Khan’s residence with the intention of committing theft. The case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS).
The police also stated that Shehzad was attempting to flee to his native village when he was caught in Thane. He was remanded to five days of police custody. However, his advocate, Sandeep Shekhane, denied the police’s claims, stating that there had been no proper investigation and that Shehzad had been living in Mumbai for over seven years.
The attack was reported by Aleyamma Philip, a 56-year-old staff nurse, and Saif Ali Khan was immediately rushed to Mumbai’s Lilavati Hospital. The actor underwent successful surgery to remove a 2.5-inch-long blade from his body and is now recovering. According to hospital officials, Saif has been moved from the ICU to a regular room and is no longer in danger. His sister, Soha Ali Khan, shared a health update, saying, “We are happy that he is recovering well, and we are very thankful and grateful that it wasn’t any worse. Thank you for all your wishes.”
