‘Critics’ Choice Awards’ has a brand – new date after postponing the ceremony – twice! The event was initially supposed to be on January 14, 2025, in Santa Monica, but it got postponed to January 26, 2025, and now, the official date has been set for February 7, 2025.
Amid the Pacific Palisades wildfires, the event will take place just a few miles away from the fire at Barker Hangar, Santa Monica, where thousands have been evacuated and many homes destroyed, along with a separate fire that is ravaging the Pasadena-Altadena area, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
“This unfolding tragedy has already had a profound impact on our community. All our thoughts and prayers are with those battling the devastating fires and with all who have been affected,” Critics Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin last week said in a statement.
The award ceremony will be aired live on E!, and will also be available to stream on Peacock. However, there will no longer be a “Live from E!: Critics Choice Awards” two-hour red carpet special ahead of the telecast. Hosted by Chelsea Handler for the third consecutive year, Conclave and Wicked lead this year’s Critics Choice nominations with 11 apiece. Dune: Part Two and Emilia Pérez follow closely behind with 10 nominations each, including Best Picture nominations for both films. Rounding out the Best Picture category are A Complete Unknown, Anora, The Brutalist, Nickel Boys, Sing Sing, and The Substance, as per the Deadline.
Meanwhile, the wildfires have impacted Hollywood events profoundly, even the ones in New York. Many of the premieres such as Wolf Man and Unstoppable last Tuesday; Better Man, The Pitt, and On-Call on Wednesday, and The Last Showgirl on Thursday were canceled. Several award shows were also on the radar such as Oscar Nominations were postponed, and the annual BAFTA Tea Party on Saturday in Beverly Hills was also canceled.
