Shardul Vihan sustained his fine form as he won the mixed trap gold medals with Sabeera Haris in the 67th National shotgun championship at the Dr. Karni Singh Range, Tughlakabad, on Friday.
After a spectacular performance in the individual event on Thursday, when he won the men’s trap gold and the junior silver, Shardul continued to hit the targets with conviction in coasting to the two gold medals in the mixed trap event.
Sabeera had also given a good account of herself in the individual event and thus was able to support Shardul in clinching the two gold medals for Uttar Pradesh, which beat three teams to the gold by two points, in the non-Olympic event that does not have a final.
The Tamil Nadu pair of Prithviraj Tondaiman and Nivetha Nenthirasigamani was able to beat the Army and Haryana teams for the silver in the shoot-off.
In the junior event, Shardul and Sabeera proved too strong with their combined score of 136 in beating Rajasthan’s vinay Pratap Singh and Nandika Singh by 10 points.
The results: Mixed trap: 1. Uttar Pradesh (Shardul Vihan, Sabeera Haris) 133; 2. Tamil Nadu (Prithviraj Tondaiman, Nivetha Nenthirasigamani) 131(4); 3. Army (Karan, Preeti Rajak) 131(3); 4. Haryana (Lakshay Sheoran, Aashima Ahlawat) 131(2).
