Wholesale inflation rises to 2.4% in December

NEW DELHI: Wholesale price inflation accelerated in Dec due to an increase in prices of some manufactured products and non food items.
Data released by the commerce and industry ministry on Tuesday showed inflation, as measured by the wholesale price index, rose an annual 2.4% in Dec, higher than the 1.9% in Nov. Price pressures have remained stubborn despite some signs of easing. Food articles inflation eased a tad to 8.5% in Dec, slightly below the 9.3% in Dec last year.
Vegetables inflation remained stubborn at 28.7% in Dec compared with 25.3% in Dec last year. Potato inflation spiked to 93.2% during the month compared with a contraction of 24.6% last year.
Manufactured product prices rose an annual 2.1% in Dec compared with a contraction of 0.8%.
