Diljit Dosanjh is celebrating his 41st birthday today. From his small-town roots to becoming a global Punjabi music star, his journey has been inspiring.
The singer-actor who has always stayed grounded to his ardent lovers, often shares touching stories, recently he opened up on the memory of his very first paycheck.
Last year in 2024, while promoting Jatt & Juliet 3′ he shared in an interview with Curly Tales , a heartfelt story about his first job. At 18, he earned Rs 3,000 for singing at a birthday party. Instead of keeping the money for himself, he spent one-third of it to buy a bicycle for a mentally challenged local uncle who lived alone as he promised him and the rest he donated to the Gurudwara Sahib.
Diljit made his debut in 2004 with his album ‘Ishq Da Uda Ada’. But it was his third album, Smile, produced by Sukhpal Sukh, that truly put him on the map as a rising Punjabi music star.
In 2020, he reached new heights with his album G.O.A.T., which made waves globally. It landed on Billboard’s Social 50 chart and topped the Billboard Top Triller Global chart.
Meanwhile, In April 2023, he became the first Indian Punjabi artist to perform at the famous Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
In June 2024, he appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon and performed his hit songs Born to Shine and GOAT, taking Punjabi music to an even bigger global audience.
Later, the singer turned as an actor with his debut in ‘Udta Punjab’ in 2016. Since then, he’s starred in hits like ‘Good Newzz’, ‘Jatt & Juliet’, ‘Jatt & Juliet 2’, ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, ‘Crew’, ‘Sardaarji 2’, Welcome to New York, Jogi, and more.
Over the years, Diljit has become one of the highest-paid Punjabi actors, proving his versatility and talent in both music and film.
