Coldplay’s Ahmedabad concert has fans shelling out the big bucks, not just for the Music of the Spheres World Tour 2025 tickets, but also for hotel stays.
According to the latest reports, the frenzy around the concert has sparked a surge in hotel prices all across the state. The British band is set to perform its “biggest-ever show” at the Narendra Modi Stadium on 25 January 2025, drawing fans from across the country. However, the soaring hotel prices has led to many taking to social media to vent their anger.
Netizens have taken to their Twitter handles to complaint about exorbitant rates, with some claiming that hotel rooms are being priced as high as Rs 1 lakh for a single night. One tweeted, “Hotel rooms in ITC Narmada Ahmedabad are selling for ₹90,000 per night on the 25th. If you manage to get Coldplay tickets, you also need to spend six months of an Indian middle-class person’s income to simply visit the city.”
Fans also pointed out that the price surge isn’t just limited to luxury hotels. Taking to their handles, many also noted that even mid-range hotels are charging over Rs 50,000 for a night. Another user, Ujval Chopra, tweeted a video showing the inflated hotel prices and said, “Thought I’ll book a hotel room and keep [it] just in case I manage to get the tickets for Coldplay in Ahmedabad. The prices just skyrocketed.”
The surge has led to netizens trying various strategies to avoid overpaying. One netizen suggested repeatedly booking “pay later” rooms and cancelling them close to the payment deadline. One tweeted, “Best way to beat these capitalist bitch greedy hotel chains: Book room and choose pay later option (0% cost book). when the last date to make minimum payment approaches, Just cancel. Repeat the process with same hotel and many more, MULTIPLE times.”
However, hotel chains seem to have anticipated this move. A tweet alleged that some hotels are now asking guests to complete payments well in advance to secure bookings, even if the initial terms allowed for later payment. A fan claimed, “As soon as they came to know that the Coldplay concert is happening on 25th Jan, they wrote an email asking for payment, even when the payment is supposed to happen one day before.”
The Ahmedabad concert comes after the band announced three shows in Mumbai, scheduled for 18, 19, and 21 January at DY Patil Sports Stadium. The band was initially set to perform just 1 show in Ahmedabad, but surprised fans with another gig following the high demand and sold-out shows.
